Herculaneum together with Pompeii was buried under a flood of mud and lava in the Vesuvius Eruption.
Due to the particular type of burial Herculaneum archaeological site has been better preserved, also the different typology of town (residential) makes it very different from Pompeii. Unlike Pompeii, Herculaneum is at today still partially buried under the modern town.
